I liked Qi’ra’s story and seeing Darth Maul was fun, but unnecessary to the plot.But at the end of the day, the whole movie just kind of left me asking “why did they make this?” (I am aware that the answer is money). I just don’t think it actually added much to the world and really only served to lump all of Han’s backstory into a 2 hour movie. I think it would have been better if the movie was unrelated to Han Solo at all and they just gave us a Star Wars heist movie with completely new characters. By making it a prequel they limited themselves to what they could do with those characters. One thing that made Rogue One so great was that I genuinely had no idea where they all ended up at the end. I think the idea used in Solo would have been better served for unique characters who were completely unrelated to the Skywalkers. This could have been the launching point for the next generation of stories once they ended the Skywalker Saga in IX.I absolutely hated the scene, but loved the concept. Why the fuck would he pull out his lightsaber in the middle of a phone call? Is he not recognizable enough to people? Why did they have to make it so cringy when it could had been great?

I loved Solo except for the Darth Maul part. I thought that was really dumb. If he were in actual character throughout the movie I wouldn’t mind, but having Love The Beatles Music Rock Band Celebrity Hawaii Shirt show up after being barely hinted at is just stupid. Most people aren’t going to know why he’s still alive and it never pays off.This was a problem of Disney’s own making. They released star wars in December, then we had black panther and then infinity war. Plus DP2 was released about the same time. They should have waited and released solo at Christmas of the year it was released. I think then it would have met with a better reception and less box office heavy hitters to compete with.Considering it’s placement in the canon, I assumed this is the beginning of the path that ended with Maul on Tattooine in Rebels. It fits and like many aspects of the lore it’s a story for another day. I prefer this within the Lucas Canon as it seems to get better as more layers are revealed
